The meeting was called to order by President Kenny Montgomery at 7:04pm. A motion to dispense with the reading of the previous meeting minutes was made and passed without dissent.
First order of business was a merger application. The carriers in Scottsville, New York Branch 5750 have taken a vote to merge with Branch 210. They sent a merger request to us which was duly posted and a notice was mailed to each Branch 210 member notifying everyone of the merger vote to be taken at the union meeting February 7, 2018. The member of branch 210 present at the union meeting voted unanimously to approve the merger. Branch 5750 comes to us with no assets and no liabilities. The merger application will now be sent to Headquarters for our National President to approve.
Director of Health Benefits Michael Masters
Mike Masters spoke about the many different MBA life insurance policies available to union members as well as a maturity income plan that is available to assist in saving for retirement. Mike went on to inform that benefit cards have been mailed out for those signing up for NALC health insurance. If you have not received opne yet contact the plan at 1-888-636-6262 or call the union office 427-2450 for further assistance.
Financial report read to the membership with no questions or comments made.
AFL-CIO Report: Joe Dimaria:
Gianna Finn reported the labor day parade planning is underway and they are looking at holding the parade on Friday before labor day at 5:30pm. This was done a few years ago and the participation was better overall.
Political Education: the planning is beginning for our annual Washington lobby trip, the members approved the expenditure. There is a new bill introduced January 16, 2018 , H.R. 4806 which would allow Federal workers to purchase short term disability insurance at group rates. this would be no cost to the government and would include preexisting conditions. Purchasing at group rates would make premiums cheaper.
Unfinished Business: President Kenny Montgomery:
CCa back pay has been delayed by 1 pay period. the backpay for CCA's will be paid in Pay Period 4 February 23, 2018.
Steward elections for GMF are complete with new Steward Stephen Robisch joining veteran stewards Lynne Kostadinov and Stacey McManus.
Convention delegate registration is now over. The delegates approved the budget fo this years National Convention with 3 elected Delegates joining the officers in Detroit.
The next COLA is set at $291 with the month of January figures to still be decided.
New Business: President Montgomery:
The Postal Service has notified Branch 210 of the Spring inspection schedule. Hilton will be inspected March 17, Penn Yan March 24 and Palmyra May 5. We will hold an inspection class and will announce the date soon. All are welcome to attend with priority given to those 3 stations.
Zone 14606 and East Rochester side of Penfield have been permanently removed from the FSS machine. Palmyra was added. All together the Postal Service removed 220 routes and added 57.
If your thinking of retiring in the near future it is always better to plan in advance. If you retire at the last minute your first check could be delayed several weeks due to back log at OPM. You should allow for 90 days before your retirement date if possible. you can retire at the last minute but remember it will delay your first check.
The union office needed office supplies (paper, pens, stamps, envelopes) and the members approved of the expenditure.
Our MDA bowlathon raised $916 and that amount was donated to MDA on behalf of Branch 210.
The next union meeting is open to all members and is Wednesday March 7, 2018 at 7:00pm and will be held at the IBEW union hall located at 2300 East River Road, Rochester NY 14623.
